Foot Orthoses are prescribed medical devices utilized in the treatment of many pathological and biomechanical conditions. Foot orthoses can be part of a noninvasive treatment plan for a variety of foot pathologies which result from underlying biomechanical abnormalities of the foot and ankle complex. Foot orthoses can be utilized for patients with systemic disease such as diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis to protect the foot, prevent deformity and reduce pain.
Please consult your physician for a proper diagnosis. Your physician may need to perform diagnostic testing to formulate the proper treatment plan. This treatment plan may include: physio-therapy, medication, ice, rest, surgery, bracing, footwear and/or foot orthoses. Once a diagnosis is determined your physician may refer you for orthotic or pedorthic assessment.
Once you have a prescription, a complete assessment including a full history, biomechanical exam and gait analysis can be preformed by a board certified medical professional such as a Certified Pedorthist(C Ped c), Certified Orthotist(C.O.) Podiatrist or Chiropodist. A treatment plan and recommendations are formulated based on the physician’s diagnosis and the assessment findings.
