Pediatric Orthotic & Prosthetic Treatment FAQ’s
When dealing with pediatrics a local clinic should be able to provide repairs and growth adjustment in a timely manner, most times while you wait.
Interview all Local clinics to get a feel for the clinician and their knowledge in the area of expertise your child requires.
A good rapour with a clinician should follow your child into adult hood to maintain consistent quality of care.
When selecting a clinic for treatment ask what wait times are for Follow up appointments and Dispensing of Orthotic or Prosthetic treatments. Your child should not have to wait for an adjustment nor be with out a brace or orthosis for any period of time as there treatment depends on them.
An orthosis or prosthesis should be turned around in a timely manner. From casting usually 1-2 weeks is the normal. Some children require expedited service due to the nature of the treatment, for example, Plagiocephaly Helmet. Your child should not be left waiting as they rely on their prosthesis or Orthosis to play and learn.

Helmets FAQ’s
How long will the helmet treatment last?
Generally Helmet treatment will last 4 to 6 months but, we have seen great head shapes in as little as 2 months.
Q: How long during the Day does my child need to wear the helmet?
A: Your child will begin helmet wearing schedule and over 3-4 days work up to 23 hours of daily wearing.

Prosthetics FAQ’s
I have been referred to the hospital for my prosthesis do I have other treatment options?

Q: I have an Assistive Devices Funding application signed by a prosthetic clinic team. Do I need to remain with this Vendor or can I bring the Assistive Devices application to another Vendor for treatment.
A: It is your right to choose who you would like to receive prosthetic treatment from. Educate yourself on all your options.
